Coghead: RIA App of the week

CogheadFirst of all thanks for all you guys for all the love and support.

Here I am starting a new section “RIA App of the Week” which will give my reader an insight of a well known RIA product every week. The App may or may be not be developed in Adobe products but its hard to imagine a true RIA without Adobe.

Here I am starting with well known RIA app recently migrated in Adobe Flex, Coghead ver 2.0. Did I forgot to mention Coghead is the “RIA App of the Week” ;)

Coghead is a WYSIWYG database driven application service aimed at enabling non-developers to solve problems traditionally requiring programming knowledge.

cogheadscreen.pngCoghead is also now hosted on Amazon’s Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) Web service. “Amazon knows a lot more about running data centers than we do,” CEO Paul McNamara says of the move to Amazon. The way he sees it, he is now offering an easy on-ramp for anyone who wants to create an Amazon-hosted application simply by using Coghead

Action EditorThe move to Adobe Flex is what gives the site its performance boost. On Flex versus Ajax, McNamara says:
A lot of people are talking about Ajax, but we see a world that goes beyond Ajax.
According to McNamara he chose Flex was the cross-platform, cross-browser interoperability and the prospect of creating offline apps with Adobe AIR.

Coghead has a user base of 25,000 registered user and still it has a long way to go.

Performance and Usability

Coghead is now 3X faster than before. And, in fact, some operations are now much more than 3X faster. We’ve achieved this performance breakthrough by re-implementing the UI using Adobe’s Flex software. And, Flex gives us more than just performance. With Flex, we get a combination of things that are often difficult to achieve using other RIA approaches.
