Becoming an Adobe Certified Expert (ACE): Preparing and passing Adobe Certified Flex Developer exam

Posted on | June 11, 2008 |

Adobe Certified ExpertLast week in FUG meet when we were having discussions on Adobe Certification, I came to know about various queries that might occur in a developer’s mind before going for a costly exam, for becoming an Adobe Certified Expert. I changed my long time awaited article to cover up the queries and I hope this will be a nice heads up for the certification aspirants.

The intention while writing this article is to generate awareness about Adobe Flex Certification and to clear myths, which are buzzing around the developer forums. My intention is not to provide an answer sheet, which may pass you the exam, but to give you a way, which directly reaches, to your success i.e. Adobe Certified Flex 2 Developer.
Adobe certification is an industry standard of excellence, and it’s the absolute best way to communicate your proficiency in Adobe’s products and platform. Here is my view for “Why I would like to see a Certified Tag in someone’s profile”

When reviewing developer’s resumes, one of the hardest things to discern is the applicant’s actual knowledge of Adobe Flex. I can’t tell you how many people I come across who call themselves “advanced” or “expert,” but don’t know how an event propagates from its target to upper layers!

Adding an Adobe Certified Expert tag on the resume, It certifies that the person has a decent knowledge of Adobe Flex SDK and related technologies. While they may not be true “experts,” they have shown an ability to take a comprehensive test that can only be passed by being familiar with the application. More importantly, they show they have the ability to study and learn — a relatively rare find in today’s world.

I am going to discuss almost all the things related to the certification process to my experiences which will definitely going to clarify all the queries a developer have on Flex certification.

Readers please give your valuable feedback and submit queries. I will try my best to clarify all of them asap.

Why should I become an Adobe Certified Expert (ACE)?

Well my answer is: If you want to improve your Flex skills or your chances of finding flex related work, help your résumé get noticed or negotiate a rise in your salary, stand out from your competition or increase your attractiveness to the opposite sex ;)

Adobe Certified Flex 2 Developer is perhaps the most prestigious tag a RIA expert wants to add up in its resume. It not only increases your chance to get the job it also provides you instant upward growth in your career.

In terms of Adobe’s vision

As an individual, an Adobe Certified Expert credential allows you to:

  • Differentiate yourself from competitors
  • Gain recognition from your employer
  • Leverage the power of the Adobe brand
  • Get your resume noticed
  • Attract and win new business

As a business perspective, use the Adobe Certified Expert credential as a benchmark so you can:

  • Find the right person for the job
  • Invest in, and promote, your most promising employees
  • Quickly assess candidate skill level

In order to cover almost all obvious queries which I generally faced in last couple of weeks and also in FUG meets,

I was having an increasingly difficult time picking up Flex — so I opted to pick up a book. I went with Flex 2: Training from the Source. …

This is enough to achieve the certification..
And also this book didn’t cover topics like UML,Use cases
So pls suggest the book which covers these topics and also abt Flex 2: Training from the Source book
