Google launches Chrome, its very own OpenSource browser
Posted on | September 3, 2008 |
Google has launched an OpenSource web browser Chrome beta. As per Google official Chrome download page “Google Chrome is a browser that combines a minimal design with sophisticated technology to make the web faster, safer, and easier.”
Details:
Being a true Google fan I downloaded it and installed and the first experience is as follows.
Pros:
- Fast downloading speed
- Multithreaded browser tabs
- Memory optimization and excellent garbage collector
- HTML engine is based on Webkit
- Have its very own JavaScript Virtual Machine V8
Cons:
- Do not ask where to install
really frustrating - My Sony Vaio mouse pad started behaving erratic when i launched Gmail inside Chrome.
- As we know Google stores a lot of user data, your privacy inside Chrome is always a big question.
- Google having its own Android opted Webkit which is not so powerful web Processing engine.
Concluding my above, I have uninstalled Chrome for now as I feel Firefox is still rocking
Lets keep our finger crossed for future.

i’m willing to try it out just to see if it works more efficiently than FireFox… if it’s faster than Firefox and isn’t IE, then i’ll use it

O My God, For us, from designer perspective, It’s just an another browser, so more compatibility issues are there with most of the sites.
Anyways, FireFox is still better.
As of now Chrome has nothing special to shine.

true its not FF.. but its definitely something to watch out for. Especially GACL(Gears, Android, Chrome on Linux ) model they are pursuing. Just something to watch out for.
Abhishek was right when he mentioned that for now.. chrome doesn’t have any special ’shine’.
cheers
