Bidding Adieu Capgemini

Posted on | September 11, 2012 | 1 Comment

Finally a day came, which I never thought will come so soon. My tenure with Capgemini is over. Yesterday 10th Sept 2012 was my last day with Capgemini. It was not just a job, it was a lifetime experience.   I did not wanted to send a small copied mail saying be in touch. I want to share my experience with my mates here in my own space. Its time to revisit fabulous memories with the experience called “Capgemini”.

Almost a half of decade I worked with Capgemini and have uncountable memories. It feels like it was yesterday when I joined Capgemini (08 April 2008) as a Senior Consultant and the first assignment was of an individual contributor with one of the most prestigious client. I was amazed with the work culture. Despite being a new chap, I was given full freedom to work.  I remember days when my Manager Ravi or Yogesh get worried if I am staying late. That discipline of team management gave my building block of leadership. I was working with Morgan Stanley account and it has its own charm. People not aware of processes will sink in the ocean. There comes the fabulous team, some friends of lifetime, Krishnendra Nandi (my first pal from CG), a bong from UP, but a brain straight from MIT. Divya Rakesh was the another gem who was with me for almost 2 years before he moved into bigger role, offcourse he is doing great and sky is a limit for him.

Hardcore techies Sourabh Mittal & Harshal gave me the sense that Morgan account is for the one who have the ability to drive things end to end. My successful 3.5 years proves I did not miss that lesson.

Soon fate was waiting for a tough exam, 2008 end, we tasted the recession hit, people were going, and project and accounts were shutdown. On a higher management decision even our team were asked to move out of the floor. It was full of uncertainty, for just 2-3 days J yes, my luck landed me in a group of geniuses again, I joined the FSA account where some of the greatest minds were working. Sagar Kulkarni, a true friend and an uncrackable nut (this is how his well-wisher refers him). He can be referred as master of all, as I don’t remember I asked him anything and he did have answer for it. FSA was a team of crazy guys who work like they are saving the world by their code and they party like the world is going to be an end today.  There I got a chance to go to London UK. My colleague became flatmates, my real brother from different moms Pradeep Kancharla (Kaanchi), Rohit Dikshit (Dick-shit),Karthik (dude) , Deepak (pak pak), Sourabh Mathur (mathur saab) and Amruta (Later became Mrs Sagar Kulkarni) were there with me. It was so much fun that even the entire internet will be less to describe. A journey to Scotland is an unforgettable memory. Trouble at Birmingham, missing the bus at Manchester, getting scolded as we were “running like a chicken”, meeting Harneet and reaching Scotland DDLJ style. One trip completes all thrilling experience. I don’t think I could ever celebrate a birthday like we did on the scenic space of Edinburgh.  And there were more parties which are not to be named here. FSA would be incomplete if I don’t mention a man, a manager, a leader, a person who has nobody talking negative for him, Srikanth Dorairajan. Our manager who won hearts from all the team members by his good work.  I am sure who so ever worked with him must admit that if you want to become a people manager, you have to learn everything from him. He was one of the manager I worked with whom people stay by their will. We (Me & Sagar) cancelled our Balrclays, Singapore opportunity just because we didn’t wanted to miss the opportunity to work with Srikanth. There was so much to learn from him. He is our Thaliwar (Big Boss). A group of 30+ associates, everyone was a family and most of us are in touch all time. Be it Rajnish (Rajjo), Nitin Dhatrak (dhatura),Ashish,Parag Kelji,Amit Pekamwar, Anshul Tiwari,Sanjay Somraj (baba), Atish, Pradeep Rangdal, Ketan Bengali, Satya, Rajveer and my sweet friend Viral (Jiggi).

2008 also brought joy in my life; I booked my home and became proud dad of my sweet little daughter Aahana. Monika, later joined Capgemini in 2009 in the e-learning division.

After returning from UK, I got an opportunity to work again with Morgan, with a burning project. Hardworking team but somehow the requirement was little spaced out. Initially I was asked to handle the role of Flex lead but sooner the project management and delivery management were added in my KRA. I must say, If miracle happens it happens here by hard work. Thanks to the team who had a strong coordination, we not only sailed through those tough time but won clients confidence. We managed to bag multiple projects from the same account and are still on a success track. The team combined (CG & Morgan) has some of the great believers, be it our ED Raj Majumdar who always trusted us with proper guidance at right spot. Jayesh, our QA Manager or Robert Zic & Shailesh, they all were such a sound professionals. I was fortunate enough that in such short span I worked with so many great minds. Everyone in the team put all their effort to make it success. I will miss morning alarm calls from Jayesh. Kudos to all.

The offshore group, Abhijit, Senthils (Senthil M & Senthil S), Shirish, Tejas,Dipti,  Tushar,Apurwa, Anuj and Radhika, Rajesh all were such a sound techies. Absolute masters in their field. Viral later joined hands in supporting this project. Our Iron wall Nitin Deore, who then the rightshore counterpart helped a lot in managing client expectations.  I worked almost 2 years with this group and have millions of fond memories. Best team to work with for sure. Cheers guys, you all will be badly missed.

I made some true friends during this, Ganga, Mansi, Shakti, Gagan Khandelwal, Veerashree, Chetan, Misbah  and many more. There were few who do not even part of any project with me but still friendship was always there. Cant spare mentioning Kalpesh, Sapna, Akil, and many others in such gang. :-)

During my Capgemini tenure, I got an opportunity to work with some of the best managers too, Vishal Gupta, TDI, was not only a senior but a true mentor, who always showed me what is right and what should I do in tough time. Under his guidance I was rewarded as Tech Guru Award and also featured on Capgemini Newsletter. Thanks for your guidance sir. Kishor Atigre, a man who is similar to a coconut. The hard shell outside and the kind heart inside. I joined his team as delivery lead, and he tought me all the Capgemini processes with Management mantras. I have heard that managers blame for no reason, but Kishor, he never utter without reason. Honestly I tried many times to counter my facts but sooner I found that he is a master of all trades. He has such a solid hold on delivery and leadership. Wish could stay more to learn from him.

I think If I keep on writing, it will go on and on. I should stop and keep some memories un casted in words.  I left Capgmini as an organisation, but I am true Capgeminian and will carry its values wherever I go in my life.

Good journeys always come to an end to start another. I wish Capgemini and all my fellow associates good luck.

Adieu all have fun & miss me.

Flex SWF Optimization

Posted on | June 14, 2010 | No Comments

I found this list somewhere and was very much inclined with what I feel, so thought worth posting it here

  1. Keep nesting thin: Don’t nest too many VBoxes and Canvases, that will make your app dramatically lag/freeze
  2. Don’t Embed: Only embed things that are very small and need to show up immediately (icons in skins for example)
  3. Deferred Instantiation: Only add what the user needs to see. Everything else will wait until the user goes there.
  4. Explicitly size all item renderers. If DataGrid item renderers aren’t explicitly sized, your app might freeze for an instance when constructing it.
  5. Optimize Assets for the Web (icons ~< 20k, large images ~< 200k as a rule of thumb).
  6. Refactor to remove excessing curly-bracket Binding (width="{something.other.width/4}"). Causes a bunch of events to be dispatched that you likely don’t need. Too many events == too many temporary objects == lag.
